What is Youth Tiger Summit?

World leaders will meet at the heads of government World Tiger Summit in St. Petersburg, Russia from  15-18 September 2010 to lay out agenda for the recovery of tiger population throughout their range.  As part of the Summit process during this Year of the Tiger 2010, WWF is organizing a Youth Summit to reach out to the youths of the world so they can have a voice in this important conservation effort of this endangered species. 

Young people – Youth Tiger Ambassadors (age 18 to 20) from tiger range countries and countries that support the conservation of tigers – are invited to Vladivostok, home to the Amur or Siberian tiger, in Russia Far East for a for a Youth Summit from 12-18 September 2010. The Summit will provide them with the opportunity to learn more about tiger conservation along with their fellow youths from other countries and discuss ideas on raising awareness of the tiger. They will visit the habitat of the Amur or Siberian tiger, be taken on a tiger trail, and get first-hand information about the state of the wild tiger population and necessary measures for their conservation measures.

At present tiger populations are plummeting rapidly, driven by massive forests destruction, lost of natural prey species, poaching and illegal trading. The global wild population may now be as low as 3,200, down from an estimated 100,000 at the beginning 20th century . In Indonesia, only about 400 Sumatran tigers left in the wild and they are struggling to survive.

WWF is inviting two delegates from each of the tiger range countries and those countries with no tigers of their own but are helping to save the tiger, to attend the Youth Tiger Summit.  WWF-Indonesia is inviting two talented- creative youths to the summit as the ambassadors of Sumatran tiger conservation efforts.

Penelitian di Luar Negeri Melalui Program API Fellowships

The Nippon Foundation bekerja sama dengan Pusat Penelitian Sumber Daya Regional-LIPI mengadakan Program Asian Public Intellectuals (API) Fellowships. Program ini menawarkan sejumlah dana penelitian (non gelar akademik) di luar negeri. Negara tujuan tempat dilakukannya kegiatan penelitian adalah Jepang, Thailand, Filipina dan Malaysia sebagai negara-negara peserta Program API. Untuk itu, kami mengundang peneliti, dosen, wartawan, aktivis, guru, mahasiswa, artis dan profesi lain yang berminat untuk melakukan penelitian di negara-negara tersebut. Periode penelitian berlangsung antara 1 (satu) sampai 12 (dua belas) bulan, tergantung pada kategori usia pelamar, dimulai dari tanggal 1 Juli 2010 dan berakhir tanggal 31 Juli 2011.

Program API Fellowship terdiri dari 2 (dua) kategori berdasarkan usia pelamar. Pelamar berusia 40 tahun ke bawah terhitung tanggal 31 Agustus 2009 disebut The API Fellowships. Lama penelitian yang dapat dilakukan mulai dari 4 (empat) sampai 12 (dua belas) bulan. Pelamar dengan kategori The API Fellowships boleh melakukan penelitian di 1 (satu) sampai 2 (dua) negara peserta program.

Pelamar yang berusia 40 tahun ke atas terhitung tanggal 31 Agustus 2009 disebut The API Senior Fellowships, dengan masa penelitian mulai dari 1 (satu) hingga 12 (dua belas) bulan. Pelamar dengan kategori The API Senior Fellowships boleh melakukan penelitian di 1 (satu) sampai 4 (empat) negara peserta program.

Tema-tema penelitian untuk Program API 2010-2011 adalah sebagai berikut:
1. Perubahan Identitias dan Konteks Sosial, Sejarah dan Kebudayaan
2. Refleksi Mengenai Kondisi Kemanusiaan dan Upaya Mewujudkan Keadilan Sosial
3. Globalisasi: Struktur, Proses dan Alternatif

Proposal dan dokumen (hard copy) yang diminta sudah harus masuk ke Lembaga Mitra API Indonesia paling lambat tanggal 31 Agustus 2009 (bukan cap pos). Pelamar yang proposalnya memenuhi syarat dan mendapatkan rekomendasi dari Dewan Seleksi Nasional untuk seleksi tahap berikutnya, akan diundang ke Jakarta untuk mengikuti wawancara pada pertengahan Oktober 2009. Biaya transportasi dan akomodasi peserta wawancara yang berasal dari luar Jabodetabek ditanggung oleh penyelenggara. Pemberitahuan hasil seleksi dilakukan pada bulan Februari 2010.

Proposal HARUS dilampiri dengan; Applicaton Form (dapat diperoleh dari website API: http://www.api-fellowships.org), CV, Surat Pengenalan Diri dan dua (2) buah Surat Rekomendasi. Proposal dan seluruh dokumen harus ditulis dalam Bahasa Inggris.

Scholarship: Environmental Policy Program (EPP)

GSIR Offers "Environmental Policy Program"

IUJ is happy to announce that the Graduate School of International Relations (GSIR) will offer an Environmental Policy Program (EPP). EPP is a non-degree program offered for 6 months from October 2009 through March 2010, and taught entirely in English.

This program is designed to prepare the next generation of leaders in environmental policy and management by providing them with a conceptual framework and practical skills.

The EPP is sponsored by Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) and the participants in the program will be provided funds from JASSO under its “JESESYS Programme 2009/2010: Invitation Project for Undergraduate and Postgraduate Students of Environment-related Subjects.”

GSIR is inviting applications from students with bachelor’s degrees and who are currently pursuing graduate studies in a university in their native countries. However, the countries are limited to Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, or Vietnam. Up to 18 students will be admitted to the EPP. The application deadline is Sunday, May 31.

The admitted students will be given “Exchange Student” status and will reside in the IUJ’s student dormitories that provide the opportunity to enjoy life on campus with people of different nationalities and backgrounds.

EPP adalah program non-gelar yang ditawarkan selama 6 bulan dari Oktober 2009 sampai Maret 2010, dan belajar - mengajar sepenuhnya dalam bahasa Inggris.

Program ini dirancang untuk menyiapkan generasi pemimpin berikutnya dalam kebijakan lingkungan dan manajemen dengan menyediakan mereka dengan sebuah kerangka kerja konseptual dan ketrampilan praktis.
